Best Thrift Shopping In Boston
& how I styled this sheer dress (thrift store find)
Hi friends (yes literally you guys are my friends) welcome back to the blog!
Yesterday I was at one of my favorite thrift shops in Boston and I overheard some girls saying, “Oh, Christmas?” & “You think it’s good for Jake for Christmas?” Now, I don’t know who Jake it but their comments sparked an idea in me! Thrift or vintage shopping is amazing for yourself, but it’s even better when you’re gifting to someone else! You’re able to find some really unique pieces that are usually full of personality and style. It’s also a gift you know you’re friend/loved one won’t be getting somewhere else! I’ve rounded up the best thrift shops in and around Boston + linked some cute stuff below, cause I love ya. By the way, I know this look is a little *scandalous* but I’m going for it ya know.. I love sheer pieces and making them fun!
The Garment District
Literally such a meca of amazing-ness, but you’ve got to be ready to work for it! They have two floors of thrifting available, everything from $1 a pound dump, seasonal items such as costumes, vintage clothes and bags from the 80’s and everything else in-between you can think of. Realizing this, you have to go in there with a mindset. Easily distracted you’ll become if you go in there just to look. They have cute Christmas decorations right now, and so so so many ugly Christmas sweaters, so if you need one for a holiday party head there asap. Personally, my favorite area to shop is the $1/lb (on Fridays, every other day its $2/lb) dump where you can find some MAJOR goodies if you get a high off searching through massive piles of clothes for brands like Supreme, J Brand, Intermix etc. Plus I buy alllll my vintage t-shirts in that section instead of paying $30+ in retail stores for them! I probably wouldn’t shop this section for other people, just because you never know, I’m always really careful with what I buy and I wash everything first before I bring it into my house. That being said, I’ve never had any problems! Anyways, I really love this place, go check them out >> The Garment District, 200 Broadway, Cambridge MA 02139
They’ve got two locations in Boston, as well as locations all over the country, Buffalo Exchange has always been a great go-to for thrifting. I always find popular brands a a fraction of the retail price. They are usually doing some promotional deal and constantly are getting new items in. Bonus is, you can resell your own clothes here! Just drop em off and bring your ID! It’s a really great service that allows them to get quality clothes, and you to get a little cash. And then if you’re like me you will spend what you just made on new clothes you probably don’t need in that very store! Just kidding, I’m reformed now with slightly more self control. Find a location near you >> Buffalo Exchange
This massive space houses between 5,000-10,000 of clothing daily! Also known as Family Thrift, it’s huge and warehouse style, so be prepared to search. Urban Renewals has so many gems hiding within it’s racks that it’s definitely worth a trip (or ten). They have a locations in Boston, Florida and Texas! Besides have low prices and amazing products they also do daily sales, so essentially savings on top of savings! Even my guy friends love it here. See if theres a location close to you >> Urban Renewals
What do ya’ll think about this sheer dress? It’s vintage and I bought it a few weeks ago at one of the shops I talked about above. I didn’t try it on when I bought it, rookie move, and I thought it was going to a little longer, and a little more fitted. To my surprise it’s actually quite an awkward midi-ish length on me and its definitely too big. To make it more sexy, I just wore a bralette and high waisted, “full coverage” underwear. I honestly love this look, with the converse because it balances out the fact that sometimes my ass is visible. Boyish, sexy, and chic. I’m not sure how I would feel about wearing this look out, but I loved it for these photos! They were taken by a local train station near me. Aesthetically I’m very pleased. What do you think though??
